There was a time when people use to abandon their pets on the streets without realizing how badly that would affect their pet. Either they left for their vacations or wanted another dog instead of their own. In the end, the pet either becomes a victim of a hit and run vehicle or is bullied with the children on the street or killed by the strays.
What an irony! One day we get a pet for our entertainment and the other day we leave it on the street to survive on their own. It is very important to know that, once a pet becomes your family you need to take care of it by all means. It does require immense care, affection, devotion, training and love. It is not a tiring job- after all it’s so much exciting and fun. Who wouldn’t want to be greeted by a dog with a wagging tail knowing that he waited for you to get home from work!
To avoid mistreatment of the pet, now there are various organizations who have started to work in shelters. Either they are independent volunteers who take care of abandon pets or there are various animal shelters where they take in animals and get them fostered. It is heart wrenching to see that those people who actually had their own pet (cat or a dog) after sometime- they gave up to a shelter and in return went on to get another breed of dog. Without realizing that their own pet was a puppy when they got him and after few years they left him-why? Because, they wanted a good pedigree breed. Does this makes any difference? There are already so many adorable pets at the shelters and people like them who abandon their furry friends is not acceptable. We all need to understand the fact, that adoption is much better than buying a pet because, adoption will decrease the amount of animals at the shelters and would overcome the promotion of buying the pets from the breeders.
It is time to speak up for all those cute animals at the shelters and do as much as we can for their well-being.
