We have brought you some important news about Calcivirus, it is that time of the year where you Cats can catch this disease. What is it and how you can treat it, it’s all mentioned below.

Calicivirus is a highly contagious viral infection that affects cats. It is one of the common causes of upper respiratory tract infections in cats, along with herpesvirus. This disease is spread through direct contact with an infected cat or through contact with contaminated objects, such as food dishes or litter boxes. Symptoms of calicivirus can include sneezing, nasal discharge, conjunctivitis, oral ulcers, fever, and loss of appetite.

In some cases, calicivirus can lead to more severe complications such as pneumonia, chronic gingivitis, or a severe form of the disease called virulent systemic calicivirus (VS-FCV). There is no specific treatment for calicivirus, but supportive care, such as fluid therapy, antibiotics to treat secondary bacterial infections, and pain management, can help manage the symptoms. Vaccination against calicivirus is available and is highly recommended as part of routine feline vaccinations to help prevent the spread of the disease.

Hence, regular vet visits are always recommended, never take any illness of your pet lightly as the pets are at a higher risk of getting any disease if they are either kept indoors but with other pets around.
