This week instead of sharing some funny and cute images on the Weekend, I thought to share about the major illnesses and diseases that Cats and Dogs tend to develop specially in the coming months of Summers. Today we shall be sharing about the most common and horrifying disease of Canine Parvovirus (CPV), often called parvo. Here is all that you need to know and what treatment is required for your pet.

Canine parvovirus (CPV) is a highly contagious viral infection that affects dogs. It is a member of the Parvoviridae family of viruses and is transmitted through contact with infected dogs or contaminated objects, such as food bowls or bedding. The symptoms of parvovirus in dogs include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, and dehydration. The virus attacks the intestinal lining, which can lead to severe vomiting and diarrhea, and can cause the dog to become weak and dehydrated quickly. The virus can also damage the immune system, which can lead to secondary infections.

Puppies are more susceptible to parvovirus than adult dogs, and unvaccinated dogs are at higher risk of contracting the disease. Treatment for parvovirus includes hospitalization, fluid therapy to prevent dehydration, medications to control vomiting and diarrhea, and antibiotics to prevent secondary infections. Unfortunately, despite treatment, some dogs with parvovirus may not survive. Prevention is the best way to protect dogs from parvovirus. Vaccination against CPV is highly effective and is recommended for all dogs. It is essential to keep puppies away from unvaccinated dogs and contaminated environments, and to practice good hygiene by cleaning food and water bowls, bedding, and other objects regularly.

Once again I would mention, don’t implement your own knowledge on your pet as this disease needs a close attention of a thorough vet only.
