FIV defined as Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, it is mainly passed from one cat to other cat through a bite- wound. One of the reasons it is advised to keep your cats indoors as these commonly diseases can be easily transmitted. The fights which are usually aggressive or based on a territorial issue can end up as a disaster for your cat. Whereas, this isn’t the only mode of transmitting disease as it is learned that this disease can be passed on from Mother Cat to her kittens. Also know that sharing the same bowl of food, litter boxes, being socially active cannot pass on this disease.
Cats who are infection with FIV, most of the time their symptoms are not visible until years after their initial infection occurred. This virus is slow-acting, this makes the immune system of the cat weak once the disease has hit the kitty also, other infections might occur as lack of immunity. Whereas, those felines who are given proper medical care and are kept in a clean and stress-free environment can lead a comfortable life from months to years. (Anyone who has a cat diagnosed with FIV, kindly note that FeLV (defined as Feline Leukemia Virus) is not related to FIV though they belong to the same retrovirus family and cause many similar conditions. But keep in mind, FIV and FeLV are different diseases). It is often found that the Cat Parents are unable to differentiate between the diseases and create panic for themselves and their Feline, so it’s always better to consult your Vet and diagnose the disease before the treatment.
Symptoms Of FIV:
As mentioned earlier that the cat may no show any signs of the disease for years, but when the symptoms develop they may progr3ss or might be possible that the cat would show signs of sickness as behavior change, sneezing, skin redness, wound that don’t heal, hair loss, inflammation of the mouth and gums and eyes, Diarrhea, weight loss, Anemia, Fever, Dental disease.
Also remember that you need to care for your pet just the way you do to your children. If you leave your Cat unattended during this disease, then the secondary infection may occur as a life-threatening condition for your Cat. Also, Cats with FIV can develop various form of cancer, kidney failure which will eventually take away your kitty’s life. Therefore, it is humbly requested to everyone to please keep a close check on your Kitty as they are your liability.
