There has been high alert for the Citizens of the City to be safe around the rainy season as it is expected to rain continuously. Since, the last rain in the year 2020, has actually made life on hold, with no electricity, no help for the basic necessities aswell the life of the homeless as well as indoors was halted. This time the weather updates has been floating around that it would rain immensely, therefore, this is what we as a community should also do to help the Stray Animals as well. Helping street animals during heavy rain can be a compassionate and necessary act. Here are some ways you can assist them:
- Provide Shelter: If you have a covered porch, garage, or any area where animals can find shelter from the rain, allow them access. You can also create makeshift shelters using waterproof materials like tarps, cardboard boxes, or old blankets. Place these shelters in safe locations where animals often gather.
- Food and Water: Place food and water in covered areas where animals can access them without getting soaked. Make sure the food remains dry and doesn’t spoil in the rain.
- Build Elevated Feeding Stations: Elevate feeding stations slightly off the ground to prevent food from getting wet and soggy. This can encourage animals to eat despite the rain.
- Provide Dry Bedding: Place dry bedding in sheltered areas to provide warmth and comfort to animals seeking refuge from the rain. This could be straw, hay, or old blankets.
- Create Drainage Channels: If you notice standing water pooling in areas where animals congregate, create drainage channels to help divert water away from those spots.
- Keep an Eye Out: During heavy rain, keep an eye out for distressed animals in your neighborhood. If you see an animal in need of immediate assistance, contact local animal control or a rescue organization for help.
- Educate Others: Spread awareness in your community about the importance of helping street animals during adverse weather conditions. Encourage neighbors to provide temporary shelter or assistance to animals in need.
- Volunteer with Animal Rescue Organizations: Consider volunteering with local animal rescue organizations or shelters that work to provide care and shelter for street animals during inclement weather.
- Donations: Donate supplies such as blankets, towels, food, and waterproof shelters to animal shelters or organizations dedicated to helping street animals.
- Advocate for Long-Term Solutions: Advocate for long-term solutions to help street animals, such as implementing trap-neuter-return programs, promoting adoption and fostering, and supporting policies that address the root causes of animal homelessness.
Remember, even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in improving the lives of street animals during heavy rain and other challenging weather conditions. Help them to help your souls.
