Islamic teachings emphasize kindness and compassion towards all living beings, including animals. While there are several sayings (Hadith) of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that highlight the treatment of animals, one specific Hadith often mentioned regarding animals in the house is about cats:
Cats are considered clean animals in Islam.
Here is a well-known Hadith:
“The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, ‘Cats do not invalidate the prayer because they are one of the things that are useful in the house.’”
This Hadith highlights that cats are considered clean animals in Islam, and their presence in the home is permissible. They are not seen as impure and do not invalidate prayers, which signifies their acceptance within a Muslim household.
Another Hadith that emphasizes the importance of treating animals with kindness is:
“The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, ‘Whoever is kind to the creatures of God is kind to himself.’”
This underscores the broader Islamic principle of compassion towards all creatures, including those that may live in one’s home.
