One of the most horrifying incidents occurs when an animal is treated as an object. They are brutally abused in such instances. This abuse happens either by starving them or by beating them. In most situations, humans abuse their pets. They do this when they feel they can no longer control their partner. Pets are often targeted because they can be controlled.

Studies have consistently shown that animal abuse is a strong indicator of other forms of violence, including domestic violence and child abuse. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) states that approximately 75% of women in domestic violence shelters report this. Their partners have also abused their pets.
