Are Wet Wipes Safe For Pets?

Published by

It depends on the type of wet wipes. Most regular household or baby wipes are not safe for cats. They often contain chemicals such as alcohol, fragrances, essential oils, propylene glycol, and preservatives. These substances can irritate a cat’s skin or be toxic if ingested. Cats groom themselves and will likely lick the area.

  • Pet-safe wipes specifically formulated for cats or dogs (unscented, hypoallergenic, free of alcohol and harsh chemicals).
  • Unscented, fragrance-free wipes labeled as safe for pets.

Avoid using:

  • Baby wipes, makeup remover wipes, disinfectant wipes, or general cleaning wipes.
  • Anything containing essential oils, aloe vera, or strong fragrances (all of which can be harmful to cats).

If you need to clean your cat and don’t have pet-safe wipes, use a soft cloth. Make sure it is dampened with warm water as a safer alternative.
