So tell me, will you be honest with me and tell that would you be present with your Cat when sick? Most common question that is asked by everyone.
When sick, cats often seek warmth, safety, and your steady breathing and heartbeat. That closeness can lower their stress. Some cats do the opposite and hide when they feel nauseous or in pain, so either response is normal.
Is it okay to let them stay?
- Usually yes for colds and upper respiratory issues: Most cat viruses are not contagious to humans. The risk to you is low.
- Be more careful with: ringworm which is a fungal skin infection, intestinal parasites, or any wound or diarrhea. These can spread through close contact or bedding.
- Watch your cat’s signals: purring, kneading, relaxed body means comfort. Tensing, moving away, panting, or crying when touched means they want space.
If you do sleep together, wash bedding more often, wash hands after handling litter or medication, keep their nose and eyes gently clean as your vet advised, and give them an easy exit from the bed so they are not trapped by heat.
If your cat has fever, trouble breathing, not eating for more than a day, vomiting or diarrhea, or you develop rash, itchy patches, or stomach issues, check with your vet.
